A Guest Cottage sounds like such a wonderful place to stay and perhaps this sign will be on a Guest Cottage door someday.
Below is the finished sign. Today's dream cottage is cozy and warm.
Just before Christmas Muddaritaville Stencils shared on Facebook 'we pay the postage' stencil sale. I love the many stencils they produce and have bought several locally at stores that carry ASCP.
Supplies used to make sign:
old board 5" wide, 24" long
Muddaritaville Guest Cottage stencil
Fusion Mineral Based Furniture Paint - Lamp White
CeCe Caldwell Beckley Coal
paint brush
stencil brush
masking tape
newspaper
clear wax
clean rag for waxing/polishing
2 Z bar hooks and 4 small nails (for hanging the sign)
Started by scrubbing the board - it has been around for quite awhile. Let it dry overnight.
Painted the the board, both sides Fusion Lamp White, 2 coats. Drying time was about 1 hour for each coat.
Lightly taped the stencil in place by 'eye measure' then measured twice (ok maybe 4 times carefully) to make sure the placement was balanced and then taped it so that letter and sign edges were covered to protect the board from unplanned paint marks.
Used a medium stencil brush and dabbed off most of the paint on newspaper until the brush was dry (I use my arm for the final dabbing test to make sure no wet paint is left on the brush).
Dabbed (up and down movement with the brush) over the stencil letters until each letter appeared to have the same density of black (not solid black).
Removed the stencil, washed and returned it to my stencil drawer storage. This is a new addition to my ongoing search for finding the best place to store long stencils.
A pink and purple poinsettia to welcome guests.
I have not received any compensation for this post - I just want to share where I bought the stencil I am using.
Thank you for visiting today.

Whether it is hanging on a small cottage or in a guest bedroom, it makes a warm and welcoming statement. Great job!

Please pop in and visit. I am celebrating 6 years of blogging this week with a Give-A-Way.
Very cute sign. I'm loving the black and white.
ReplyDeleteI love the sign. It is so pretty in its simplicity.
ReplyDeleteI wish my stenciling abilities were as good as your Joy. Your Guest Cottage sign looks so professional. I always end up with smudges and have to sand like crazy afterwards to hide my mistakes. Hope you have a happy week dear lady
ReplyDeleteLove it! Simply Sweet!
ReplyDeleteJoy you always make the best signs! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
ReplyDeleteWhen you hear guest cottage it does have a ring of "special" to it. Love the front of the guest cottage...I never seem to make signs and dont know why. Perhaps you've inspired me!
ReplyDeleteLove it, that is definitely a special touch to add to make your guests feel truly welcome.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out very neat. And I don't think I've ever seen a purple poinsettia...lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous way to add some character to your decor!!

A cute sign I'd love to see on a real guest cottage.

ReplyDeleteI really like that fancy G in GUEST
ReplyDeleteSimple and classy. The purple and cream poinsettia is the perfect companion. And thanks for sharing how you made your last mosaic - I am getting a little bored with PicMonkey and want to try something new!
ReplyDeleteWould love to have a guest cottage Joy. Although, my sweet she shed could easily be transformed into one. Other than it wouldn't have a bathroom. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann

We don't have a guest cottage either, but we do have a "guest basement"! Haha! Actually it's pretty comfy down there. Thank you for sharing with us on Party in Your PJ's. I pinned to my DIY board!
