Guest Cottage Sign

Today I am sharing a Guest Cottage sign (stencil by Muddaritaville).

A Guest Cottage sounds like such a wonderful place to stay and perhaps this sign will be on a Guest Cottage door someday. 

Below is the finished sign. Today's dream cottage is cozy and warm.

Just before Christmas Muddaritaville Stencils shared on Facebook 'we pay the postage' stencil sale. I love the many stencils they produce and have bought several locally at stores that carry ASCP.

Supplies used to make sign:

old board 5" wide, 24" long
Muddaritaville  Guest Cottage stencil
Fusion Mineral Based Furniture Paint - Lamp White
CeCe Caldwell Beckley Coal
paint brush
stencil brush
masking tape
newspaper
clear wax
clean rag for waxing/polishing 
2 Z bar hooks and 4 small nails (for hanging the sign)

Started by scrubbing the board - it has been around for quite awhile. Let it dry overnight.

Painted the the board, both sides Fusion Lamp White, 2 coats. Drying time was about 1 hour for each coat.

Lightly taped the stencil in place by 'eye measure' then measured twice (ok maybe 4 times carefully) to make sure the placement was balanced and then taped it so that letter and sign edges were covered to protect the board from unplanned paint marks.

Used a medium stencil brush and dabbed off most of the paint on newspaper until the brush was dry (I use my arm for the final dabbing test to make sure no wet paint is left on the brush).


Dabbed (up and down movement with the brush) over the stencil letters until each letter appeared to have the same density of black (not solid black).

Removed the stencil, washed and returned it to my stencil drawer storage. This is a new addition to my ongoing search for finding the best place to store long stencils.
