Made another stencilled sign this week too (picture #8).
Fall is my favourite season for ease of decorating. It takes just a few random pieces to make a Halloween/fall grouping. The lantern was already rusty and worn looking, favourite faux pumpkin came out of storage (the bigger of the pumpkins here) and the front porch became the background, the pumpkins were picked up on an upcountry drive and the squash - a gift from a friend.
Thrifted finds seemed to learn toward orange this month and Tupperware orange fitted right in to the fall colours.
Black is another good fall/halloween colour. The black faux vintage phone needs a paint touch-up, the black frame makes a handy background for the black hobnail cream and sugar, pitcher and vase.
Seasonal characters, a faux bird house and a tin sign have the deck gate and a roundish shield (DGS has a new project underway) as the background for this grouping.
On my day trip up North I did find some PINK! - a Beswick vase with subtle pastels, a pineapple pattern hand crocheted pink tablecloth and a delightful small wall display quilt. Also found a folding dessert tray, blue and white cow creamer, a brass lady bell, a Fiesta green salt and linen table runner/dresser cloth with a blue outlined butterfly.
I did paint a second plywood pumpkin and I decided to keep it for backgrounds. The eagle is Blue Mountain Pottery, a Canadian company that not longer exists except through the BM Pottery legacy. The map is printed on a thin leather like scroll.
Metal pencil sharpeners (and there are hundreds of different looks) come in many different vintage furniture, tools, etc. designs. Always looking for signs and globes to take over to my booths.
Painted 4 of these very common framed mirrors with CeCe Caldwell white a couple of years ago. This week (since finding my missing stencil) I sanded, stencilled words, clear and dark waxed. The tray was on the 'free' table at my favourite thrift store and the little silver container is from my own collection.
The wicker bed tray was sitting in the thrift shop for days and on the 50% off day it was added to my collection. Love the details. That well rusted licence plate is the last one left from February finds. It just jumped into the picture because it was a mid-century piece that found a mid-century friend.
Here are some close ups of that lovely wicker bed tray.
The already white frame and tin box found at a thrift store both had some chipping and black marks plus some turquoise showed through on the outside of the lidded tin box, updated them with Rust-oleum White.
It was time to bring the house plants in from their summer and early fall time outside. Fire King swirl chip and dip set, Made Of Honor orange square dish and Pyrex Spice O'Life casserole mixed in with the house plants.
Favourite find this month was this heavy transfer ware platter, "Barnyard Giant", Johnson Bros, 20 1/4 x 16 inches. I wonder who had to carry it loaded with a turkey ready for carving.
Thank you for visiting.

Great finds! I buy globes everytime I find one.
ReplyDeleteSo many great finds! I just started buying older tupperware that is in nice condition. Do you sell a lot of it? Love the FK swirl chip/dip set! Never seen that before. I always do well on those large turkey platters!
ReplyDeleteJoy, I love the vignettes you create with your great thrifty finds. I'm looking for a good globe to give my Grandson for Christmas. Maybe I'll find one on my thrifty hunts!
ReplyDeleteOh, my dear, I have enjoyed my visit tonight so very much!! I don't get 'out and about' as often as I used to so when I get a free hour to visit my friends, you are one of the first ones I seek out. I loved ALL of your October finds and the one I think is my favorite is - the A & W coffee mug! The old license plates are another favorite. We have license plates from 1936 - the year Louis Dean was born - that belonged to his father in law....his beloved Ellen's father. LD often credits all the things he knows how to do to Jerrel Doggett! He was more of a father to him than his own dad - who died while Louis Dean was still a young man.
ReplyDeleteI still entertain hopes of doing some stencil magic around here soon! I always think of YOU when I try my hand at it!
Happy Fall.....I guess it's just about over for you .....and just starting for me...
You have such a gift for display, Joy. I am constantly amazed. Lovely finds!

ReplyDeleteJoy, I love the turkey tray, but the wicker bed tray is my favorite! Thank you for sharing @Vintage Charm. Pinning!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds Joy ... the Turkey platter is outstanding. I have not seen that shape before. And yes, they are big and heavy. I passed my Mother's vintage turkey platter on to our daughter. I also like the wicker bed tray. Happy Fall.

Hi Joy, You have a real talent for putting together some great groupings. I love your style very much. The turkey platter is awesome. i have one big like yours and it is very heavy with a big ole turkey on it. I display it as a decoration more than I actually use it for our Thanksgiving turkey.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday.
Hugs,
Jeanne
