A wooden painted red and loosely made faux ship wheel was in a box of thrifted stuff. Looked good, had possibilities.
front back
DH made some repairs.
I painted the wheel CeCe Caldwell's Simply White, 2 coats plus a few touch ups, back and front.
It sat around painted white for quite awhile until I found a 'words' stencil. Each word had a sticky back which made stencilling the small words much easier.
Clear waxed when dry, polished.
I tried a few different ideas for the centre, a brass plate, seashell, several clock faces.
I think an old clock face would look great but I don't have one and I don't want to take any of my clocks apart. I thought about mod podging but the face I printed out needed more 'white', I will continue searching Graphics Fairy.
Maybe a velcro detachable centre piece, a sweet photo, a small mirror, lots of choices for the centre.
Then DH found a metal star in my bits of metal stash, it opens to six arms.
Just right.
Thank you for visiting.

Hi Joy,
ReplyDeleteClicked over from Bloom Designs linky party. Your ship wheel caught my eye. Lovely makeover. I love the nautical theme, and am looking for a large ship wheel also [at a reasonable price] to add to my nautical project makeovers.
Aren't you smart! My mind never would have thought to do something like this. I'm green with envy that you are so creative. The words you added are just perfect.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thoughts of Home on Thursday. :)
This project turned out great Joy!
ReplyDeleteJoy ... Love how this turned out. The star DH found is just perfect. I liked your idea of a clock face too. This would also look good with clock works with large (long) hands and just add numbers that correspond with the spokes. 12 at the top ... 6 at the bottom and 2,4,8 and 10 if those would be the correct spacing of the spokes. Love the words that you chose to stencil. As always ... a great job.
ReplyDeleteThis is just great!!! Where did you find your stencil 'words?'
ReplyDeleteI love this project- what a clever idea.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you shared it at Thoughts of Home on Thursday.
