Go Game

Something else I am learning a bit about, new to me, the long history of the game GO.

Just sharing the game and pieces (not how to play, just a bit of the 'what is it' information) about GO.

Here are the two GO game boards my friend Y brought over to show me, the small pictures are the front/back of the 2nd game board (my first thought was that there were too many squares for checkers but it would make a good table top)

I finally opened the box Y brought over that had the game bowls/lids and the black and white stones. Then I looked at a few sites to read a bit about the GO game. Huge amounts of information available.

The Stones and Bowls

The pieces that came with this GO game have had some hard use, several chips in the glass stones. The stones feel very smooth and pleasantly cool to the hand.

Wikipedia has a good description which starts out GO is a board game involving two players, that originated in ancient China more than 2,500 years ago. It was considered one of the four essential arts of a cultured Chinese scholar in antiquity. The earliest written reference to the game is generally recognized as the historical annal Zuo Zhuan[2][3] (c. 4th century BC).[4]

This image is from Wikipedia.

I copied the beginning layout of a GO game onto the board below.

I loved the feel and the idea of the game. I know I won't play GO but its history is long and there is much to be found online if you want to know more.

There is always something new to learn.

Thanks for visiting.
