More Progress on the ...

All the pieces of the project below were stored in a box out in the shed for years.

The project (below) has been a long time waiting.

Some hints - the wood is poplar. The mystery object was made at Woodstock, Ontario Canada (stamped on metal piece, see below).

This is the mystery picture I posted last week. First repair.

Some of the leg joins and 2 pieces of the base.

Next up are rusty claw feet with glass  - and I think the secret is just a about out.

The metal parts all had rust from years of being stored. The feet were cleaned with very fine steel wool,

A dowel repair was made to a cross piece. The wooden pieces were cleaned with very fine steel wool and fine sand paper as needed and wiped clean then the first coat of Watco Danish Oil Finish was applied.

This cleaned up and partially painted black is an adjustment piece

Below is the top (turned right side up) with its 2nd coat of Watco.

All work was done by DH.
My part was taking pictures (and writing a post).
More to come (hopefully soon).

Have you guessed?

  1. Looks like a piano stool to me.

  2. Yes Eddie, and there are a few more hours of work to get to the 'we can use it' stage.

  3. I wouldn't have guessed it was a piano stool. It's going to be beautiful when you're finished though :)

  4. Well done! What a lot of work it's taking, but it will be a beauty. The Danish oil is a miracle worker.

  5. Just has to be a piano stool. I have never used Danish oil furniture finish. Will have to see if it is available in Texas. Looks like a beautiful finish. Good luck with getting is all back together.
