Tutorial: Grain Sack Striped Heart

On Monday I found a wooden heart in the thrift store. Decided it could be useful and brought it home to make something. This morning grain stripes came to mind. I love grain stripes (here, here, here ,here, here) so...

I taped the wooden heart first with a narrow and two narrow tapes, Painters Green Thin Tape and Yellow Frog Tape to make a faux grain stripe. I wanted that area to stay natural.

Because I was using unpainted wood I used a foam brush to put a thin coat of Zinsser Cover Stain (oil based) over the back and front of the wooden heart and the knob.

The red paint needed 4 coats to show a clear red. Removed the Frog Tape. Used ASCP Soft Wax as the finish. Polished.

Added the knob and a back hook.

Made a few vignettes with pinks and reds.

Added a favourite necklace with blue stones.

After I added the hook to the back I hung the valentine on the bulletin board and added two vintage necklaces. My original thought was that this valentine with a knob would be for displaying necklaces.
