I've collected figural planters for years. I remember way back in the 1960's finding the beginning pieces of my collection at church rummage sales. I keep finding additions now a thrift stores and garage sales at very fairly reasonable prices.
This sweet little polka dot hanky/children planter, likely from Germany is a Fairing (given away at a fair). Spill vase perhaps, likely early 1900's. This one was not inexpensive and belongs to DH.
Below are a few more of pre-1990 finds.
A new addition this week (thrift store find), a 1950/60's Haegar baby with football in satin finish.
The darker picture (lights off) shows the the finish more accurately.
An Occupied Japan Swan planter, gentle colours.
Below, more of my pre-1990 finds (I know this because they were wrapped in 1989 newspaper when 're-discovered' in my storage shed).
Small Sylvac fawn hiding in the grass, wonderfully crazed.
Medicine Hat Sleeping Indian Pottery Elephant added to my collection in March 2011. I've seen blue, yellow and cold painted versions.
I have more packed away waiting their turn to be on display.
Thanks for visiting.

ReplyDeleteThese are neat! I'm reminded of a neighbor lady who gave me one of these when I was about 5 or 6 years old. It was a little Mexican boy with a donkey, I think. Thanks for sharing your collection!

What a terrific collection you have! That first vase is just beautiful, and I also like the one that looks like an open book w/ birds. Thank you for sharing this at my History & Home Link Party this week, take care - Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
