Welcoming, personal, alternative to a wreath.
I'm always looking for objects to turn in to chalkboards. Love chalkboard paint.
Found this wooden tray while thrifting last Monday. Possibilities.
Used CeCe Caldwell Simply White for the raised carved rim and Rust-oleum Chalkboard Paint for the centre (two coats - both paints, stir well before using). Remember that chalkboard paint dries quickly and is not easy to clean off hands or brushes so clean up right after using.
Waxed Satin Finish then Aging Wax - CeCe Caldwell.
Gave the chalkboard paint a good rub with white chalk. Wiped off with a soft cloth, added a hook.
Tapped in the little brass nails, bent one. Tried the finished chalkboard on the only wall space I could find in the house, I like the effect of the dark wax. (2 days later I just 'wiped' off the chalk paint that got on the back of the chalkboard with a damp cloth - who knew!)
Replaced my outdoor wreath.
Welcome Home.

Simply charming!
ReplyDeleteJoy - Love the chalkboard you did. Don't you love making something completely other than what the item was intended for? You did a great job on the paint and the wax finish. Love the effect it gave.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a chalkboard. Love the carving and the aging wax. You did such a beautiful job on it. Will the chalk paint wash off after it is waxed?
