It is indeed a fortunate day when a vintage painted chair is discovered. The multiple layers of paint chipped and worn to a lovely patina and the hints of past splendor in this chair make it a favorite find indeed.
The similar but not matching chairs lived in the same house at least from the 1960's, perhaps even earlier.
There was a craze for crackling techniques and this chair looks like it was part of the party.
The green is so very vintage as are the cream and red.
The joints are firm, the chairs have substantial weight and are comfortable.
Thought you would enjoy seeing painted age.
Here is another piece, from the same era: a 1950 era Drop Leaf Kitchen Table.
and this vintage yellow bench shares the same time period.

Oh my goodness.,...LOVELY all of those pieces! Love that table...a lot!
ReplyDeleteThe two chairs are divine! I wonder if they really were intentionally crackled. I have my grandmother's old wooden ice box. which she painted over and over and over in a creamy white. It's naturally crackled over the years and looks just like the chairs.
ReplyDeleteThere is just no way to get this authentic look without age!

Joy, your pictures are outstanding! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy,
ReplyDeleteWow, I just love the furniture. Those chairs are awesome. I brought one of those home a couple of months ago and y husband said, "when are you going to strip it?" lol! What does he know!
I am your newest GFC.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Bev

Great finds! Happy weekend,

Beauties! Luck was with you to find these!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds Joy. Only time can create that wonderful crackled look. I have a liquid that creates the crackle, but not like that. That looks really time-worn. Love all the pieces. Thanks for sharing.

I have a few chairs that are "aged" over time. Some people think they are simply old and need painting... We use them whenever my husband's students come by so everyone has a seat. Yours are more detailed than ours.
ReplyDeleteI love when I find an authentic chippy or distressed piece! I like to mimic it in my painting business, but the true blues are my favorites. Great share...
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Claudia's linky :)
Amazing! I love the colors and the crackling. I can see why they are favorites.
ReplyDeleteI popped over from Claudia's party. I've been looking forward to joining this meme for a long time, and finally took the plunge. It's been fun seeing what everyone shares!
XO,
Sheila
Love all these wonderful chippy vintage pieces! They would be favorites of mine also!

I love the drop leaf table and the bench - I would have bought those too.
ReplyDeleteChairs are lovely but I've got too many chairs already!
A lovely post Joy and I've come via Claudia's A Favorite thing!

You make me remind some chairs in my barn ... I'd love to have a bench like yours. Happy weekend. Regula
ReplyDeleteLoving the bench, too!
ReplyDeleteLovely chippy chair and love that bench too!
ReplyDeleteThe chair is wonderful. The other pieces are also nice, but I just love the colors in the chair.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I have a question. I love to look at the blog rolls of bloggers to get ideas for other blogs to visit. Many are blogs I also follow - I just have mine alphabetically - I know, boring! I am just curious how you decide which blogs go on which list.
Have to say I am in love with those chairs, Joy. Oh my goodness, the colors and the chippiness make them works of art.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in this week!

They are lovely pieces, the colors showing thru the cracks are pretty. Great finds! Have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteWow ~ look at the colors in all that chipped paint ~ lovely vintage items for Mosaic ^_^
ReplyDeleteFabulous finds. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteI love old furniture and these painted pieces are wonderfully aged. The chair is a beauty to me. Some would chuck these in the garbage but not me. :) I'm visiting from Mosaic Monday. Pamela at playingwithmycamera
ReplyDeleteI have a number of old chairs, but none as chippy as your find! Love it! Thanks for sharing them on Mosaic Monday.
ReplyDeleteI get so excited when I find a piece of furniture that is so perfectly chippy that I don't have to do a thing but find a spot for it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Erica
Such a beautiful old patina...a piece of art...
ReplyDeleteSuch fun, crackling patina! Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays! x
