Old, vintage, retro, fabric, precious. Yoyo, Sunbonnet Sue and the covers that are creamy white with age.
The first cover was found at a small Church Sale, in a box under a table. Spent HOURS
repairing the joins. Its a delight and I like using it to accent finished projects.
Thanks for naming this for me LV, Yoyo Quilt.
Another Church Sale find, some age stains in a child sized quilt, Sunbonnet Sue pattern.
The following covers belonged to my late mother-in-law. She was a dedicated collector of all things fabric and loved refurbishing the pieces she found.
It takes time to wash and dry these vintage bed covers. My way is to soak one cover at a time in a mixture of pure soap flakes (mixed well in some hot water) added to a tub of lukewarm water (mixing well again). Soak the cover well and gently, by hand, agitate a bit. In colder water rinse and rinse and ... and then dry flat (I dry on a clean paint tarp covered with towels and then a white sheet on the grass on a sunny day.
This one was used on her dining table over a pink tablecover. Most of her collection has been shared between her children and grandchildren.
Three cushions; cute sailor bear, crocheted, knitted. Haven't tried to clean these either.
Storage of covers is important. I just read Dawn at Creative Cain Cabin's post Quilt Cabinet Makeover - she writes about her beautifully refinished (with chalk paint and wax) Quilt Cabinet.

Hi Joy,
ReplyDeleteLove the vintage bed covers! So dainty and delightful!
Have a great week,
Poppy
They are all beautiful! The first one is amazing!! I started a yoyo quilt - a friend cut thousands of circles and I had a HUGE basket full.....then used them in craft projects and finally sold the rest on eBay. You have to have the patience of Job to make one of those and they are certainly to be treasured! Glad it found a happy home with you.
ReplyDeleteI did make a Sunbonnet Sue quilt - all machine sewn, mind you - and a king sized one to boot! Still have it and still use it although it probably qualifies as vintage now.....40 years old!
Loved seeing what you are up to!
Oh, how delightful! Such a beautiful collection Joy.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy them!!
Cheers, Gee
What a great display of quilts nice finds.
ReplyDeleteDenise
What a fabulous collection - they are all so beautiful. It's great that you are so lovingly caring for them and repairing them - they are wonderful heirlooms.
ReplyDeleteLovely vintage collection! They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week ahead!
These are just beautiful, Joy. I too wash mine in the bathtub--I thought I was alone in that! I'm lucky to have a tall, airy closet space in my bedroom that's perfect for storing quilts. Most of my quilts probably fall into the cutter category, but I'm happy with their ragged appearance and imperfections because I don't have to worry about using them.
ReplyDeleteThe top one is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love the top one especially! I have one of the sunbonnet type, but it is small even on a twin bed. I would love for you to link this up on my new Farmhouse Style Blog Hop. It begins this Wednesday 1/9 at www.greeneggsandgoats.com
ReplyDeleteI love vintage quilts and church sales are the best place to find them in my experience. I’m a new follower. I saw your link on Creating my Way to Success. I would love for you to come by and share your creativity with my friends @

Thank you for showing us your collection of vintage bed covers. I enjoyed seeing them. They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy ... you have a lovely collection. That yo-yo quilt is just wonderful. Just think of the time put into making all those tiny pieces. Could have bought an unused one at an Estate Sale for $50.00 and passed it up. Have regretted it. I use a product called Restoration to remove climate stains from linens. Have to be careful to check to see if any of the colors will fade. Thanks for sharing your treasures.

Timeless Treasures
I love Sunbonnet Sues!!! And the sailor bear is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThese are so very beautiful! The time and personal satisfaction of completing one must be amazing. I know I cherish the one I have that came through the family. That yoyo one is my favorite! Thanks for giving us a peek.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
We share the same love, quilts. I have a very old YoYo quilt that I inherited. It is so fragile I do not use it. I have several Sun Bonnet Sue's in different colors. Loved seeing yours. I have soooo many crochet items in all forms.
ReplyDeleteJoy such beautiful quilts! I love that you saved them and restored them.
ReplyDeleteFabulous! I am so grateful you rescued them. So many hours went into these treasures, and they are so often discarded instead of given a bit of loving TLC. The results are certainly worth it, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
Ruth
Every single 1 is precious!!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
What a wonderful collection you have Joy! I love every single one.
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
Your mother-in-law's bed covers are wondrous and beautiful. Do you use them regularly; alternate them; or keep them carefully packed away? What kind of soap flakes do you use and where do you buy them?
ReplyDeleteLove the sun bonnet sue. My mom has one that my great-grandmother made. Except my great-grandmother called them little dutch girls. :) Love your post. Popped in from project inspire. I linked a quilt up this week, too. :) Have a great weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteSome great covers there - I especially love that yo-yo quilt - it's simply gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to a Round Tuit!
Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend.

I have greatly enjoyed looking at all these lovely pieces of history and beauty!
ReplyDeleteOh Joy, these vintage bed covers are just lovely!
ReplyDeleteVery nice designs, looking beautiful with those bright colors, they can surely add elegance to your bed and to your room, such kind of covers looks really good and are also easily washable.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy, these are treasures indeed! I love yo-yo quilts. If you have ever made one they take forever! I made (with help from neighbors and friends) yo-yo table toppers for my oldest daughters wedding. I made a couple of them into pillows for her but the rest still need to be all sewn together. I really need to do that. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
Wow. Love the vintage bed covers especially the yoyo one. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, Joy, your vintage bed covers are lovely. I especially like the lace ones; exquisite! My beloved grandmother crocheted a spread and my cousin will be the recipient of it. Thank you for sharing these beautiful covers from the past with us at my HOME. Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
You have some real treasures there! Each is more beautiful than the next! :)
ReplyDeleteStopping by from the Sew Many Ways link party! The yo-yo quilt is a true gem! Stunning!
