Vintage Wooden Clothes Hangers with Advertising

If you like vintage then you have likely come across many wooden hangers. They achieve a great patina over time and many of them have impressed advertising, some have the original paper labels and many are unmarked.

At the Church sale last weekend I picked up 10 mixed shaped wooden hangers. When I was painting in my booth Monday morning (more of that pale grey paint) a customer phoned the mall to see if there were any advertising wooden hangers available. That was my impetus for today's post. (the empty shelves are freshly painted).
In doing a search for blogger wooden hangers I found this Pintrest link of projects using wooden hangers. One photo was from Donna of Funky Junk Interiors blog (link to that post here), using a hanger as a curtain rod. If you do an image search for vintage wooden hangers you will find an amazing range of types, colours and uses.
The wooden shirt hangers in this post are just the tip of wooden hanger shapes, sizes, styles. I wish I could remember where I 'filed' my collection of wooden pant hangers.
Check out Sherri of Back2Vintage's post on hangers (great pictures too).
This small collection of wooden hangers is definitely in the vintage category. I remember buying wooden hangers in the 1970's. My goal was to have no wire hangers in my closet. Never made that goal, plastic hangers became popular. I miss the substantial feel and look of a good wooden hanger.
So, do you use or collect wooden hangers? Did you check out the two links at the top of this post to get some great examples of alternate uses for wooden hangers?

I went over to the mall to paint some more shelves this morning and am adding a picture of the tie hanger I have in my booth.

  2. The ladies at my linky party would love these! I would love for you to come share this at my linky party, Cowgirl Up! going on right now!

  3. I like old wooden hangers too. Very charmin'. I often use them to display vintage clothing that I have for sale. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Love the hangers. I've been collecting old hangers for awhile.
Denise Can you let me know if you got this comment?

  5. Hi, I have several antique heavy wooden hangers with long handles on them. I believe they are display hangers for a boutique. They have no manufacturer markings. Can someone shed some light on these and if they are worth anything?

    Thanks! :o)

  6. I have one for free if anyone wants to pay for shipping. Probably a sports jacket hanger (thick). On one side, there is stamped M.S. SILVERSTEIN, Inc (on the left side); 149 STANTON ST., N.Y.C. (on the right side); and ONE PRICE CLOTHIER stamped in the center.

  7. Now, more than 100 years later, there are literally hundreds of different styles of clothes hangers, but still never one around when you need it. coat hanger

Thanks for visiting. I read and appreciate all your comments. Joy
