Finding filigree metal frames, often found with mirror inserts, has been on my 'radar' list for years and this year has been the first and best year for finding these frames. I've spray painted them white, used them for dresser display trays, tea trays... and this past weekend I added two more, this time filigree frames with 'stand up' supports. Decided not to paint these gold coloured frames, took them apart and cleaned the murky glass (each frame had very nibbled glass, so keeping eyes on hands while working was very necessary).
Went to Graphics Fairy's blog and found two images that seemed just right. Dragged each picture to my desktop, opened Word, choose 'add picture' and resized the borders after enlarging the picture by dragging a corner. Printed each picture on cream coloured paper. Put the now clean glass on top of the picture and traced the outline, cutting it out inside of the line so no pencil line remained. Put glass back in frame, layered the glass/picture/cardboard inserts (2) and the back. Done.

I've been on the lookout for filigree frames lately too - I've found and made over two and want more! Leave some for me please ;) -Jill
ReplyDeleteJust lovely!! And to think of all the ones I have thrown away in past years! That's why it is so HARD to thrown ANYTHING away anymore!!! I keep thinking I WILL find a use for it....somehow.....someway.....someday!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen these frames and never gve them a second look, Joy. Now I've got to keep a lookout for them. I love the idea of painting them. Although I suppose that destroys their vintage value?
ReplyDeletePainting the frames gives them the faux vintage look. Goes well with all the painted furniture. I use spray paint for metal.

ReplyDeleteThank you for linking your lovely project to Potpourri Friday!
Lovely idea! I collect these types of frames as well and often put modern pop art or found photos in them for wall vignettes. Love he little girl with the wand. :)
