Kathe with an E wrote a good description of a Canadian Thanksgiving.
A direct quote from her post:
"Unlike the American tradition of remembering Pilgrims and settling in the New World, Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest. The harvest season falls earlier in Canada compared to the United States due to the fact that Canada is further north.
The day is similar to the American holiday in that it is spent with family, watching parades and football and eating turkey and pumpkin pie."
Thank you for finding my post worthy of quoting :) I hope you have a wonderful holiday spent with family, friends & food :)
ReplyDeleteThis was so interesting--I honestly didn't know there was a Canadian Thanksgiving in October until yesterday when my daughter told me she was making a casserole to take to a friend's, who was having Canadian Thanksgiving early. I think one of their friends is Canadian, so they all celebrated together and had a wonderful time. So it was fun to read your post today. There's nothing better than good food, time with family and friends and some time to relax(unless of course you're the cook!).
ReplyDeleteAwesome quote! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from your American neighbor!

ReplyDeleteYou just answered my burning question I was wondering how the Canadians spent this day...Turkey, family, pumpkin pie! I assumed they had all of the same traditions, but just did not know!
