Quick Project - Storage For Small Stencils and Waxes

Utilizing a small space for Small Stencil Storage plus keeping waxes, brushes and paint handy.

First up - making a place for small stencil storage

Couldn't get a full length photo of the storage board hanging from the side of the tea cupboard, below is the top of the board hanging from the side of the cupboard - out of sight but very handy. DH added the screw to the side of the cupboard and drilled the hole in the board.

Sequence of preparing and hanging the storage board

The project took a small amount of time, first I sanded the edges of the piece of plywood then painted one coat of Simply White on all sides, had one hole drilled for hanging the board and added Small Stencils for fun.

Final steps included clear waxing/buffing, adding 3 cup hooks spaced to match the length of each batch of stencils and finally adding adding 4 clips holding small stencils (there is room for more).

Supplies:

used a somewhat warped piece of plywood
4 various office clips
one wood screw
3 cup hooks
Simply White and Beckley Coal Chalk-clay paint
small paint brush, small stencil brush
green ABC stencil
newspaper to protect counter
a few pieces of paper towel
soap and water for cleaning brushes

Handy because:

easy to remove board
not invasive of home space
keeps small stencils tidy

To keep the waxes and paints I use most frequently handy a narrow thrifted metal framed shelf was added to the same little corner.

Small storage areas in small spaces. I started storing my masking tape on a paper towel holder a few weeks ago and its working well for me. No more searching for tape.

I keep my paint brushes in jars in the cupboard (as well as many other bits and pieces) behind the curtain. I pinned a curtain type header on a linen table runner to hold an expandable curtain rod and it is convenient to reach the brushes without the visual clutter.

I have to thank Donna of Funky Junk Interiors for more stencil storage ideas here

Organization rocks.

  6. This is a great idea for small stencils. I keep all my stencils in a magazine rack but the small ones get lost. I will be honest and say I plan to steal your idea for storing rolls of tape. I lose mine continuously.

  8. Good Morning!
    I am organizing too.
Right now I have some things in 2 places and that is certainly not being organized!
You have motivated and inspired me, however your storage space is much more charming than mine.

  12. Hi Joy, I was so happy to see your link. Thank you for joining Blue Monday at Backyard neighbor. Sally would be pleased and so am I.

Your stenciled hanger is very clever and useful. The tape idea is a good one too. My cousin hung all of her ribbon on wire across the top of her workspace. Your photo shows an organized person. Good for you. Life is much easier when one is organized. I'm afraid I fall short in organization. My home is always neat where it shows. Heaven help me when someone looks in my closets. Lol.

    Happy Blue Monday.

  14. that's quite an interesting storage idea! Great way to leave them out to dry when you're done using them too! I would rather have my paint concealed in a crate somewhere rather than displayed though. Thoughts?

  15. I missed this post the first time around! Glad you reposted it in your year end recap. THIS IDEA IS GENIUS!!!! I can't tell you how much time I've wasted digging around my very messy work space looking for a particular stencil. Is it in the top drawer? The scrap paper box? Behind the desk organizer? On the floor? Guess what I'll be working on this week?!
