Saw Blade Coffee Sign

Choice of rusty hand saws

Oiled the handles

The saw handle with the mark of red paint (so that the owner could find his saw after it had been sent in for sharpening on the job) was given a coating of hemp oil.

The second saw was oiled with Olive Oil and both were polished. The wood was very dry and absorbed the oil quickly.

Wiped the blades to remove loose rust.

Stencilled COFFEE on the red marked saw.

After lightly adding clear wax and carefully (with a very light hand) polishing this sign did 'tone down' somewhat.

Next I added a bit of black outline to the one side of the letters and again lightly waxed the entire saw/handle (both sides) and polished, being careful not to get the white letters too dirty from the rust.

Tried the Coffee Sign on Welsh Dresser

Supplies:

Rusty old hand saw CeCeCaldwell Antique White Chalk type paint

CeCeCaldwell Clear Wax
Stencil brush, fine lining brush
Hemp Oil and Olive Oil and clean rags
Newspaper, paper towels

Repurposed, useful.

  18. You are so clever. I would never have thought to use a saw for a sign. Now you have me thinking that I might paint a sign on one of our old saws and hang it in the garden.

Thanks for the inspiration and for Sharing Your Cup!
