Repair and Paint

Updating the small side table with a drawer and shelf was spread over several days.

First job was scrubbing before painting

I used TSP/water, a Mr. Clean sponge and  rinsed well. Dried overnight.

DH glued and clamped and nailed one corner of the shelf that had loose nails. Used pliers to remove/install the glass knobs.

Next day the taping and painting starting. Because it has a dark varnish finish the first  two coats were Zinsser Primer-Sealer Bulls eye 1-2-3 Stain Killer.

Used two applications of a very light grey, General Paint Breeze Latex. I am deciding whether to change the color or apply a clear finish and call it done.

I admired Mamie Jane's goal of completing one project a week for the entire year.

I would be happy to complete one or two projects a month. Perhaps that might be a goal for me (no promises though).

Thanks for visiting today.
Next post will be Monday January 20th
 at 7:00 am.

  3. Nice job, Joy! Yes....a project usually is a several step/several day process. I hope your customers appreciate the time and effort it takes to get a piece ready to sell.

  10. That piece needed a lot of work before you painted it! I'm not great at the 'fixing' part so I usually avoid those pieces. Well done!

  15. I saw that you finished it! Looks great, I like the color you chose. I like red and green and blue furniture, but when you're planning to sell it, a good neutral is often the safest bet.

  16. Hello Joy,
What a difference a little TLC makes! It's a cutie!
I am thinking about painting a few of our pieces a light gray. But there's more time to think before doing, because we're finishing up building a heated workshop right now. When the weather turns warmer in May or June, I'll take on some painting.
Thank you for visiting my new little blog!

  17. Very pretty. I think your goal of one or two a month is do-able. One a week seems like too much pressure to me!

  18. Joy ... I like your challenge of completing one project a week, but I would never be able to do that. I always run into snags that gets in the way ... maybe one a month if I am lucky. Love your little side table. Turned out really nice.

  23. Wow! Very nice. I have a piece that I have been wanting to paint, but can't get over the fear of "painting wood". I think it is time to just dive in! Thanks for the inspiration. I'll let you know how it comes out. Aloha
