Home Made Chalk Paint - Vintage Wooden Chair

Welcome to

I like this battered old chair, it shows lots of character and has layers of paint. We've used it for years. I picked up some oops teal latex paint this weekend (my kind of price $1.50 a litre).
Made up a batch of home made chalk paint (see yesterday's post) 1-1-3 ratio of plaster of paris to very warm water (mixed well) and 3 of latex paint mixed very well.
I like to paint more than one piece of furniture when I mix up some home made chalk paint so the plant stand (yesterday's post) and the chair were painted the same day. Did two coats of paint and then touched up any areas that needed more paint.
The two teal painted pieces together - when dry they look more like a Heritage Blue.
If you looked at the construction behind the first picture in this post you would have seen another project that has been ongoing for several days now. It is coming together and should be ready soon for a 'revel' post - maybe even tomorrow I hope. Actually there are two projects under way. Lots of sawdust, planned curls, glue drips, paint splatters, very loud saw and planer noises, hammering, electric sander roars, router screams and a few scrapes and bandaids involved in the next two projects. My ears are still ringing and I am not the person doing all this work (DH's project - I am his find it, haul stuff, clean up, apply bandaids helper).

  1. Love your chair. The teal color looks similar to what I am painting my front door with once I get porch painted.

  8. Love that color--great tip on the mixing--I still have not tried the home-made version yet--maybe soon on an old table. Your mixture looks smooth and just like the milkpainted ones!
