School Books, Vintage

Welcome to a new follower, Sarah of Modern Country Style.

School Books from the 60's and 70's (and a few earlier, a few later) are in the pictures here. These photos are from the school books I have on my shelves in the mall. I moved them around today, re-arranged, re-grouped them.

I've always loved collecting primers and have my own sets of the readers of my youth (yes, Dick and Jane). The worst 'flood in the basement' accident was to my box of Dick and Jane Readers (entire series, 3 sets). Totally ruined. I did replace them over time at a much greater cost. So many 'retired readers' have been sent overseas or dumped. Yipes.

Laura Jeans Magazine Blogspot has some nice pictures of vintage school books. Alana's Vintage Collectibles Blog has a great article on the history of the Dick and Jane series of readers. The baby gardner's BabyBlog provides a good read about vintage school books.

  1. So many books. I love the old primers too! I have a couple of the dick and Jane series. They really reflect a much sweeter time for children.

  2. Lots of books! I always shop the books in the thrifts looking for good children's books.
