April First - Dad proposed to Mom, 1944

Today, looking back more than twenty years (vintage), I am thinking about my parents and their path through life. I just visited my Dad at his home and only hope I am as alert, happy and busy as he is when I am 91.

Dad phoned me this evening and said today was the 67th Anniversary of his engagement to Mom.

I always wondered why my Dad proposed to Mom on April Fools Day - but they never thought of it that way - they always said "that was our first kiss" on April 1st, 1944. I have a photo of Dad in his Air Force Uniform from 1944, and a photo from them wedding in October 1944. They look so young. Today they are 91, hold hands on walks almost every day (Dad visits Mom in her care home daily) and they have a tea or coffee after their walk and then Dad takes a taxi home again. Here is a link to Dad's blog. He is a retired minister.

  1. Her dress is lovely! and 91--what a long long life they have had together. I'm going to check out his blog. 91 and blogging. It boggles the mind.

  2. Dad is amazing. His grandchildren (in their 30's) write about him on their blogs too.

  4. Thank Colleen. The work they had to do just to look after and raise their families! I remember a great deal about the early 50's and Dad has written about that time as well. History.
