1960's Welsh Dresser

This Welsh Dresser has been in the 'family' since the 60's, Rock Maple. We took it over in the early 90's. The original finish has become worn and the color is no longer very appealing. Since we painted the kitchen walls a very soft gray/brown we decided to go with a darker tone of the same shade. Hence, Mosquito Premium Alkyd Egg Shell from General Paint.

Before (complete with Christmas Decorations) and During (2nd coat).

Its not as simple as I thought to get a photo of an 'after', or 'part way through the job'.

The color in the photo is not quite 'true' either, the shade is really a bit more brown.

1st coat painting details below.

I still have the knobs to paint and replace, and maybe one more coat of paint on the dresser too (based on how it looks in the photo and the small areas I seem to have missed that show the old color).

This is my favorite picture from this group.

(first painted furniture piece for me so the beginning of a wonderful journey into the pleasures repurposing/painting furniture - this note added March 10,2013).

  1. I am going to paint the knobs black (and likely add one more coat of paint today to the dresser). I totally love the way it settles back into the kitchen instead of yelling "see me".

  4. I like the toned-down new paint. Your pretty dishes should show up better now!!!

  5. Carol, Linda and Sherry - thank you for your very kind comments. My first 'painted before/after'. It is a good neutral and when I put the 3rd coat on and the knobs I will post it again (and take the photo in daylight in case that helps get a true color).
