Navy Transferware Stag Plate, J. Dimmick & Co. Warwick, Cast Metal Stag

The vintage greenish cast metal stag could be old or a repro but it is great to handle and fit in with the Stag theme these past few days.

Great backstamp on this Stag Navy and Cream Transferware plate. "Manufactured for Boxer Bros. and Co. Montreal"

This plate is an example of the Victorian Aesthetic movement. This navy transferware ironstone dish has four different nature inspired vignettes. The main panel features a stag standing in grasslands with trees and doe in the background. The fan shaped panel features assorted botanicals. The double circle panel features a bird in a flowering shrub and the final circle panel features additional leaves. The entire dish is framed in a Greek key border along with assorted other geometrical borders. The back is marked J D & ; Co. with the pattern name "Warwick" and a registry mark dating this dish circa 1880. There is crazing throughout the dish. J. Dimmick produced pottery in Hanley from1862-1904.
