Live and Learn
Yesterday I bought, without looking at the dishes, a supposedly set for 12 of Johnson Brothers Old English pattern wild roses with a blue line (likely made in the late 1930's). Nice old lady said, when asked, that there were no breaks, chips, damage. Turns out the platter was reglued, the vegetable dish is chipped. the gravy boat is chipped, 3 c/s are chipped, 3 teaplates are chipped, 3 salad plates are chipped - and there were 9 of most sizes, not 12. Serves me right to believe without checking, and I paid her a top dollar too. Also bought a box of milk bottles - one was worth something, the rest are ordinary, again overpaid. I hope this is a lesson that sticks.
